I think we have to add sales tax as well.

Everything I have read points to we need to collect and pay sales tax. I know Sean was checking with a CPA.

My vote is to have it be added at checkout. The accounting process of backing it out is not fun.

As you may know, non-profit organizations like the WLTA might be subject to collecting sale tax on registration fees charged for events like seminars and conventions and B&O tax on that “income” as well. It is unclear at this time whether that is the case, and there is a Senate bill that would clarify that we are exempt.

That is the main reason we’ve not made a registration link available yet, to our members and Idaho and Oregon attendees. Questions remain: if we have to pay, do we absorb the cost, or have the registration fee add that to what the attendees pay? If we collect it out of caution (whether the attendee pays with the registration fee, or we absorb the fee and add it to the cost of the convention) and it turns out we are exempt, how to we refund that money? And of course, if we don’t collect it, is there an audit risk for the amounts due, plus a fine?

The WLTA budget does not include such taxes.

Meanwhile, Idaho is anxious to at least let their members know about a room at Suncadia. Vendors will also want to make sure they get a room before the block expires (April 17).

I propose sending out our flyer with the link to the hotel, but with a note that registration itself is not yet available, but will be at a future date. (We would also post the hotel link on our website, with a similar note.)

See that attached. Let me know what you think. (By the way – go ahead and reserve your room – the link works, as well as calling the number.

George
