See John Holt's reply to my question about golf.

Keep in mind that while we can try to line-item specific costs and income,
registration fees for individual items, such as meals, golf, etc., will
never cover the ultimate costs for a convention (seminars are different).
That is why sponsorships are critical to the success of these events. For
example, sponsors gave over $30,000 in 2024 (see the attached list), and
that allowed us to end in the black, comfortably (see the attached final
income/expense tally). Idaho got almost $50,000 last year, and presumably
ended in the black. 

The point is that we basically have a pot of funds, and all expenses are
paid from it. We can try to cut costs here and there, but it as long as we
can expect support from ours sponsors, we probably needn't focus on
individual expenses.

We also don't want to discourage golfers. They tend to be some of our
members (including agency reps and agents) and vendors who use the
opportunity for obvious reasons. We also want to get at least 20 golfers
(harder to do nowadays) so the course can guarantee a shotgun start. (A
shotgun start is where all golfers start at the same time on different
holes, thus ensuring that they all finish at about the same time. This
allows the golfers to have lunch, drinks - or both - and hand out awards,
socialize, etc.

Anyhoo, I think we take John's advice and stick with $175 for golf
registration and not try to tie it to the exact cost for the course.

John, I'll send the room reservation link shortly. I am working on the
registration links and hope to have a flyer soon. We are transitioning to a
new ISP and web page, and trying to figure out whether to use the old and
reliable Constant Contact, or the process with the new one.

By the way, you are a golfer, and perhaps have an opinion on one issue. The
cost per golfer is $220, not including tips, refreshments, etc. We have
debated whether to charge that as the golf registration or perhaps keep it
lower (I seem to recall you had it at $200 last year.) Do you think $220
will impact golfers decisions?
