My thoughts on HOUSE BILL 1044
are noted below,

I believe that the result of this Bill will raise the current $10.00 REET collected for nontaxable transfers to $25.00.
In light of the rising cost of operating county systems related to the collection of real estate taxes, I believe our efforts would be better spent in not objecting to this Bill.
I would like our position to be to Monitor at a low priority.
I would not want this fee to be expanded on and passed unopposed.

Increase REET fees from $5.00 to $20.00 per transaction.
The funds collected shall be deposited into the general fund.
The funds will be disbursed to the 39 counties for the Maintenance and operation of an annual revaluation system for property tax valuation and the Maintenance and operation of an electronic processing and reporting system for real estate excise tax affidavits.
Until the effective date of this section, the county treasurer shall collect an additional five-dollar fee on all transactions required by this chapter, regardless of whether the transaction requires the payment of tax.
