I’ve also called and left a message with Mason on the off chance that he could speak but representing his new place of employment. His email did not suggest that, but perhaps couldn’t in context of his current employment with the UW. That’s why I phoned.

I’ve also reached out to Steven Bourassa (the Chair of the Runstad department) who originally was interested but had a conflict and arranged for Mason to speak to us. I asked him if there was someone else available, either in his department or from their Advisory Board. Two Board members apparently include Matthew Gardner (who was Windermere’s economist, but not now) and Skyler Olson, with Zillow. Matthew wanted to charge a significant speaking fee in 2022, and perhaps Skyler would too, but maybe speaking under the aegis of the Runstad School they might waive such a fee.

This is a problem, timing-wise. I’m copying in Carolyn Payne with OLTA and John Holt at ILTA as well. Aside from trying to get an economist (I’ve asked him if there is someone else who can step in from his department) let alone any other speaker,

Aside from trying to get an economist (I’ve asked him if there is someone else who can step in from his department) let alone any other speaker, lined up, we are in the process of getting the printed program set up, and that involves designing and proofing – and finally printing. (Would need a topic title, photo, bio, including speaker’s title, and topic summary. The latter not critical for the printed program, but needed for LPO submission. The time slot is 9:30 to 10:30 on Tuesday.)

Our absolute deadline for the printer is Friday.

If anyone has any speaker suggestions, please let me know and perhaps reach out on your own. At this stage, probably needn’t be an economist – it took a while to line Mason up.

Is there someone in Idaho or Oregon? One of the banks or state economist, university (similar to the UW department) etc.? 

Mason has a room at the lodge, which I will cancel if necessary, but will keep available for another speaker.

I hope you had a nice weekend and are having a great start to your week.  

I'm reaching out because I have accepted a new role and I will be departing from my current post as Associate Director of the Washington Center from Real Estate Research effective Friday, May 17th 2024.  

As a result, I unfortunately will no longer be able to attend and present during your conference on May 21st, 2024 as planned.  I apologize for the short notice, and am disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to speak - I was very much looking forward to presenting.

I hope that the conference goes well as the lineup of speakers/topics looks very interesting and engaging.  Again, I'm sorry that I won't be able to make it and hope you can understand.
