George,  Hope the convention planning is going well.  I am speaking at the Montana Land Title Association and have to be out to your part of the country the week before on May 17-18.  I am speaking on Seller Impersonation Fraud and how to prevent this kind of fraud.  I would be happy to include Washington Land Title on the same trip and speak at your convention as well. DUES

The WLTA looks forward to sharing the challenges of the New Year with its members. Enclosed is the invoice for your Underwriter Member dues for the year 2024. The existing dues formula, allocating dues among underwriters (70%) and agents (30%), was retained by the Board.

Dues for each underwriter member operating in Washington are set according to a formula based on that underwriter’s share of all WLTA underwriter members’ title insurance premiums earned in Washington in the last fully reported year (according to the ALTA’s website), which is 2022. Minimum underwriter dues are $500. Remember that an underwriter’s membership covers all of that underwriter’s Washington offices. Thus, an individual office of an underwriter is not considered a separate member of the WLTA for purposes of paying dues and will not be assessed for a separate dues obligation. All offices will be shown in the WLTA directories, based on information provided by the Member. 

Note also that individuals are not separate members; to the extent employees of an Agent Member are treated as members (for example, discounted registration for seminars and conventions and access to the Examiners Manual), such membership derives from employment with the Agent or Underwriter Member.

The classification of agent members for dues purposes continues to exclude any title agency that is more than 50% owned by an underwriter. Any such agent will not be assessed for dues separately as an agent but will be included in that underwriter’s dues. However, the agent will be shown in the WLTA directories as an agent.

SEMINARS

The annual WLTA educational seminars will be scheduled for the fall, with dates to be determined. Notices will be sent to members, and you can check our webpage for registration information as the year progresses.

CONVENTION

Mark your calendar for the convention, set for August 9, 2023 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. We hope to see you there!
